Frazier moved to give the deputies a supplement of $4,000 per employee, and Bryant Lee (Hampton District) seconded the motion, which carried by a vote of 3-1, with Chairman Charles “Pete” Estes voting against it.
“I can’t support this,” said Estes, who said he felt the supplemental was not justified in light of expenses for LEOS and a raise at the end of the year. In addition, he said he felt that deputies weren’t all leaving the county simply because of low salaries.
