The Cracked Pepper Gourmet on Lee Highway in New Baltimore has brought a wide variety of inventory to that area of Fauquier county, which Rappahannock commuters pass daily. It’s almost like a general store of old, updated to the demands of today.

“I have a potpourri of everything,” said owner Brenda Van Dyke. “I have antique and reproduction furniture and hand-painted furniture, anything pertaining to cooking, outdoor living or entertaining, gift baskets ... even dog and cat gifts.

“We sell a lot of dog bowls, especially the raised ones. I buy them plain, and I paint them.”
