Service Districts
Fauquier County has been broken into nine service districts, Calverton, Catlett, Midland, Remington, Bealton, Opal, Warrenton, New Baltimore and Marshall, with The Plains also platted as a service district.
These areas are designated to accommodate the most development for use and higher density due to having water, sewer and schools already established in those areas.
“An area needs to know where it doesn’t want to grow, but also needs to know where it can grow,” said Lee.
Lee said that it is important to keep the charm of smaller communities as Rappahannock County has done.

In order to fund a project where development rights are purchased, Fauquier County increased taxes by two pennies on the dollar as well as used roll back tax money to fund the purchase o^development rights.
CuiTently, the county pays $20,000 per dwelling unit right and writes a land easement with the county.
