homemade paper chains made with scissors and glue. Included with this could be Sycamore tree balls wrapped in colored paper. Some people had a small quantity of glass ornaments to mix with this and others spoke of colored rope they wrapped around the tree. All the trees, of course, would be mounted in a bucket of dirt or nailed to cross boards.
Last year my wife bought an artificial tree that uses fiber optics as part of its decorations. Spruces, firs and other assorted tree species make up most of the live trees we see in our local homes today. These come to us from special tree farms or are trucked in from many different out of state locations. Oh how far we have advanced! We no longer have to go out on a crispy cool December day to the beautiful Rappahannock countryside and fellowship with friends or family as we drag the old cedar toward the house.”
