includes its motto: “Children love to learn; Wakefield School gives the children something to love.” What an apt motto for our school! We have prepared our school to welcome new and returning students and to provide them with many things to learn and love.
In addition to the new offerings in Advanced Placement Environmental Science, Public Speaking, and Computer Technology, we have expanded our extracurricular activities. We look forward to providing our prep school students with instruction in swing, Latin, and ballroom dancing and to instituting “town meetings” run by student government and governed by Roberts’ Rules of Order.
Each advisory group (6 to 7 upper school students assigned to an advisor) will identify a community service project to pursue during the school year. And, we will continue our longestablished traditions of Homecoming, International Day, Advent and Christmas Revels, the Medieval Banquet, May Day, and Field Day, when the Athenians and the Spartans (students in grades 1-12) compete for the laurel crown. With our Delaney Athletic Conference “Coach of the Year” Gali Sanchez, we expect another winning year in soccer, and success in our other sports.
After a wonderful first year at Wakefield Country Day School, I know that our school community will continue to thrive as we fulfill our mission of providing a classical education for the twenty-first century. I so appreciate the combination of high expectations and a nurturing, family environment that the faculty and families have established here at WCDS.
