That is the question that has been on our minds all week. We are convinced that there are many people of good will here who would extend a helping hand to our distressed Southern neighbors if given the opportunity. Many of our citizens are fortunate enough to have the resources, the time and the compassion to do more than simply write a check to one of the many relief agencies collecting funds for the disaster victims—though we certainly hope all will do that who can.
But can’t we do more, and do it directly? Thousands of people are packed in makeshift shelters, with no jobs, no homes, no income, no worldly goods—waiting for a safe place to land.
