Faculty and staff at Wakefield Country Day School opened their doors on August 31st and welcomed students to the first full day of the 20052006 academic season. As in years past, Wakefield will continue to offer the academically challenging curriculum for which it has become well known, providing a nurturing environment that encourages personal excellence, scholarship, diligence, self-discipline and respect for others.

Some interesting innovations have been added this year.

Students in the prep school, in addition to studying grammar, vocabulary, literature and composition two periods a day, Latin, a foreign language, math, history, science and numerous Advanced Placement (AP) courses, have some new choices in electives. Thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous donor, WCDS now has not only a Mac Lab for its publications but also a brand new, state-of-the-art, fifteen station PC Lab, complete with a laser printer and projector. In addition to more opportunities for technology study and use, students may also take public speaking, offered by Sperryville’s own Reverend Jon Heddleston, well-known for his rhetorical skills.
