Variety of choices
Poinsettias have come a long way from the traditional red and white colors. Today, you can get plants with all sorts of color combinations. The colored portion of the plant is called the bract, which is a leaf-like growth at the end of each branch or stalk. In the center of the bract you will find small green balls/cups called cyathias. These cyathias hold the true flowers of the poinsettia.
Although red varieties are still the most commonly sought out during the holidays, purple, pink, cream, and speckled varieties will brighten up any home. There are also varieties with ruffled bracts that add a different element to any display. Plant breeders come out with new varieties each year for production.
