the “spa rooms” are the crown jewel in Johnson’s vision. They are designed to feel like a guest bedroom in a fine Virginia manor.

Here’s a taste:

• Spa rooms are 600 square feet in size — larger than the typical luxury rooms or suites.

• The spa professionals will come to the rooms for massages, facials, etc.

• Ointments and lotions used in the spa treatments will be made with indigenous plants of Virginia.

• Every room has a custom-made king-sized bed, a fireplace and a LCD fiatpanel TV above the fireplace.

Depending on the season, all the rooms in the resort will range from $225 to $575 per night.

But the curious won’t have to wait until the 2008 opening to get a sneak preview of Salamander’s opulence.

In February 2006, a shop will open in Middleburg selling the products that will be used at the resort: soaps, linens, lotions, towels. In the store will be a life-size replica of one of the spa rooms, complete with canopy bed and fireplace.
