mas, Friday, Dec. 16, through Sunday, Dec. 18, has been designated by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) as National Holiday Lifesaver Weekend. Virginia State Police and local law enforcement will be maximizing their enforcement efforts on “problem” roads during this time period; which is chosen because it is traditionally the most popular for holiday festivities and alcohol consumption.
Every week in December through the first of January, Virginia State Police and local law enforcement officials will be conducting Checkpoint Strikeforce sobriety checkpoints on designated roadways statewide. State Police are just one of sev-, eral state and local law enforcement agencies in Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the District of Columbia participating in the 5month campaign to raise public awareness throughout the MidAtlantic region about the dangers of drunk driving.
During December, troopers will also be promoting responsible holiday celebrations through Virginia’s “None for the Road” educational campaign.
