Kingdom. Dr. Holcombe was in the area to present at the International Neuroscience Conference in Washington, D.C. and to speak at a Cognitive Lunch Seminar at the University of Virginia’s Department of Psychology.
The subject he chose to present to the Wakefield students was “Perception.” Using power-point to help illustrate his points, Dr. Holcombe fully engaged his audience, triggering thoughtful observations and questions from the students, as well as inspiring numerous ideas for an upcoming science project.
Holcombe is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where he earned a B.A. in Cognitive Science and Psychology, and he received his PhD in psychology from Harvard University.
Dr. Holcombe is a recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a research grant in 2005 from the United Kingdom’s Economic and Social Research Council, as well as a National Research Service Award for Postdoctoral Research from the National Eye Institute. Dr. Holcombe is the son of Kathleen Grove, Head of School at WCDS.

Justine Rosenbaum’s 2nd Grade class recently took two field trips.
The first was to the Eastwood’s Maple Nursery in Rappahannock County, where they learned about different ways to grow trees, from seeds, layerings and cuttings. A tour of their beautiful greenhouse was a highlight of the trip.
