Drugged Driving (3-D) Prevention Month
Impaired driving is one of America’s deadliest crimes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), about three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some point in their lives. Every 30 minutes, nearly 50 times a day, someone in America dies in an alcohol-related crash.
“The weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s are among the deadliest and most dangerous for motorists and passengers because of the increase in drunk driving,” said Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Superintendent of the Virginia State Police. “Pluming for those holiday celebrations and festivities needs to begin before the party does. Designate a sober driver before the party starts. Otherwise, your night of fun may end in a jail cell or worse.”
The Virginia State Police will be among law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth and the nation participating in various safe holiday driving campaigns in recognition of Drunk and Drugged Driving (3-D) Prevention Month.
