Amissville angels
When three Girl Scouts launch into Christmas carols this holiday season, they will be singing for the 11th straight year. Meagan Smith (left), Kaite Payne (center) and Sarah Smoot (right) have been making a caroling tour around Amissville since they were Brownies. The three girls, with their moms supervising, have already made the Christmas gift boxes as they always do. The boxes contain not only hard candies, chocolate gumdrops, candy orange slices, and other treats from Hackley’s store, but also the Christmas cookies that the girls made themselves. Handmade ornaments and a bright, healthy poinsettia from the Amissville Nursery are included in each box. Girl Scouts of Troop 3003 make stops around the village, at the homes of older folks, ailing people, the widowed and those who don’t get out much. At each house they deliver not only the gift box, but their hearty versions of “Jingle Bells’ or ‘Silent Night.’ “Caroling is a great opportunity for us to be able to go and visit with the elderly members of the community and spread holiday cheer throughout the Community, said Kaite.
