Melissa Harris brings more than 15 years of publishing, marketing, writing and events planning experience to her position as publisher of Flavor Magazine. A transplant from New York City and the Hampton’s, Harris now lives in Sperryville with her husband and their children on a nineacre farm where she also trains for triathlons. Harris has worked with magazines and newspapers in New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, the Hampton’s, the Berks hires, Chicago and Los Angeles and most recently ran the advertising department of the CVille Weekly in Charlottesville. Her idea for Flavor Magazine came from her passion for great local food and wine, her commitment to the amazing farmers who grow it, the artisans and chefs who create it and serve it. She hopes to work with all local organizations and groups to help form the Rappahannock identity for good local food.
Editor and writer Jennifer Conrad Seidel had a conversion from processed food-like substances to glorious slow, seasonal, local food in the early 1990s, when she lived in Berkeley under the shadow of Alice Waters’s Chez Panisse. She moved to Charlottesville, VA, in 2000 where she makes a home and cooks with her husband and two children.
