For 23 years, I have experienced an annual budget process has been marked by rhetoric and impassioned arguments on both sides. But this year, for the first time, we are fortunate to have as an aid to our decision-making an evidence-based study conducted by national experts in the field, MGT of America. This evaluation judged that Rappahannock Schools are, for the most part, run efficiently and in a cost effective way.
Based on the study, which Headwaters has been asked to help pay for, as well as our own research, we agree that for the most part, this budget is fair and reasonable. In most of the areas the study looked at, RCPS’s expenditures were right on the money or low when compared to other school divisions of similar size. There were a few recommendations for cost efficiencies, and we do recommend that these be implemented in a timely maimer, especially where they are low-cost and relatively easy.
