For ten years, I have been involved
with Headwaters, the Rappahannock County Public Education Foundation. For 18 years, I was an educator here. And for 22 years, I’ve been a resident of Rappahannock County. My work with Headwaters, a foundation whose mission is to foster educational excellence by cultivating the cooperative spirit and resources of the whole community to benefit all students, is just a continuation of my concern for the children that we have the responsibility to educate.
I have watched the county change -for instance, Rappahannock County High School, once disparaged as “Apple Pickers’ High,” is now listed among the top 100 Washington area high schools in the Washington Post’s “Challenge Index.”
Our graduation rate is 100 percent. College and trade school attendance rate is now up to 76 percent. The schools have been fully accredited for five years in a row. These wonderful changes may be attributed to many factors, including the leadership and support of the Board of Supervisors and the School Board, the talent and dedication of the school faculty and staff the support of local organizations, the wonderful
