idea. However this leaves only $150,709 to help maintain school programs and pay teachers.
Already we know that Rappahannock is losing a number of exemplary teachers next year, either because we can’t pay them enough to stay or because their programs are being cut around them.
If our citizens allow this budget to move forward, any additional cuts to the school budget will result in both diminished program offerings to students and a faculty who will bear the brunt of the “don’t be taxed out of your homes” slogans.
Is this the best we can do? I remember our schools of 25+ years ago and I firmly believe that our students deserve a better education and it is our moral and civic responsibility to pay for it. We cannot move backward if our students are to remain competitive and I’m fully willing to pay my share next December.
