Rappahannock County Public Schools were closed early on Wednesday, April 16, due to a power outage. The decision was made at 10:25 a.m. to close the schools at 12:30 p.m. Afternoon activities were canceled as well. While power was restored at 11:45 a.m., indications from Allegheny Power were for much later in the day. According to Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell, “We had enough bottled water for students and staff, but we were concerned from a public health standpoint about the lack of water for washing hands and for flushing in the restrooms. Although the power came back on at 11:45 a.m., the decision could not be reversed without creating a tremendous amount of confusion.”
