state funding this year. It put the school board in a difficult position and they responded by cutting their own budget before presenting it to the Board of Supervisors.
The health of the school system is a key driver to the health of the community, and under-investing for any length of time will have serious repercussions. We are not writing as advocates or opponents of specific items in the school budget. We are writing as partners with the community in the joint project to deliver the highest quality education for the children of the county in the most fiscally responsible manner.
Headwaters has earned its right to a voice in this conversation by ten years of support, additional resources, and enthusiasm dedicated to the betterment of the students of this county. Our monetary support of the students has increased annually. We know that school funding is an increasing challenge for many counties in the state. We also know, by way of the efficiency report, that our school system is not guilty of fiscal irresponsibility.
We urge the Board of Supervisors to fully fund the scheol budget as proposed by the School Board.
