Rappahannock and elsewhere gathered on an overcast day to reopen the Scrabble School - a school established in 1921 as a result of the Washington/Rosenwald partnership to provide education for black children who otherwise would have none. The school provided education for grades one through seven.
The re-dedicated Scrabble School is now a community center for seniors and an African American heritage center.
