Gilbert pointed out that he did vote for an extension of unemployment benefits in a separate bill that would not have required permanent changes in unemployment laws.
Gilbert’s stance in favor of business is not without its limits, however. In 2007, he voted to more closely monitor and regulate utilities in the state and hints that more legislation may be pending in 2010. He said that there have been “imbalances” in utilities regulation, that “they are, in fact, monopolies,” and that he hits heard about increasing rates from many of his constituents.
