Sunday, May 3 was a special day for .Saint Peters Catholic Church on Route 211 in Washington. It was the dedication of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Maty in the church cemetery.
The statue is bronze on a painted concrete pedestal. The sculpture and the pedestal together stand about six feet high. The dedication plaque reads. “Dedicated to all mothers, and the Mother of us all." which has great meaning for Catholics. ’ The statue was commissioned by the former pastor at Saint Peter’s, the Rev. Robert DeMartino, and the work was made possible by a donation from a parishioner.
The statue was made by Thomas Marsh, who said he is a classical figurative sculptor and has created many public monuments in California, as well as public sculptures in Florida and a sculpture for the Newseum's Freedom Park in .Arlington, Va.
