Visits Sperryville School
Mr. Quirk, physical education director of the state department of education, paid a supervisory visit to Sperryville High School on Monday, February 27.
Girls Basketball
The Sperryville girls played the Criglersville Independent girls’ team Friday evening, February 24 at Criglersville. The Sperryville girls won.
Programs Postponed
Because of the severely cold weather, both Miss Della Hitt's chapel program and the movie, “Howards of Virginia,” have been postponed from Monday until later in the week. The blowers in the auditorium are not working properly, and an audience would be very uncomfortable there in cold weather.
Boys Basketball
The Sperryville eighth grade boys played the Criglersville boys Friday evening, February 24, at Cylglersvillte!. Sperryville boys won the game.
Glee Club
Glee club practice was held on Tuesday, February 21. Work was done on a number of songs that the group plans to use in a minstrel bhow that will be held in April.
Seeding iBluegrass
Spring seedings of bluegr&ss should be made in February or early March, says A. G. Smith, Jr., associate horticulturist, of V.P.I.
Bluegrass starts best in cool weather—and if you wait until late April to seed, the tender seedlings may be killed by hot weather.
Smith says although the fall is the best time to sow lawn grass seed, many lawns have to be seeded in late winter and early spring.
On old lawns, sow bluegrass on top of the sod as early as possible. Use plenty of seed and fertilizer.
The fundamental tools erf any farmer are but five: air, sunlight, soil, water, and humus. When you burn broow sedge, you destroy humus, lose water and soil. Man hasn’t put hands on the sun yet!
