“The grass is always greener’’ and all such talk is fine, but regardless of how difficult my lot may be at some future date, you’ll not persuade me to change jobs with the poor fellows who make up the county budget! To “blood, sweat, and tears’’ add a good seasoning of temper and the * situation is complete. There isn’t money enough to improve the schools, add extra courses, get a county health unit, raise the welfare funds, pay off the debts, and do the thousand and one other things wanted by taxpayers. If the taxes are raised—and no other outlook is on the horizon— then there are howls, long, low, Joud and mournful.
Some county citizens say: “Raise the taxes now, get the county out of debt, and lower taxes later.’’ Others say: “Gut expenses and appropriations, don’h raise taxes.”
