they have so many people on relief that it takes between thirty and forty thousand dollars a year to take care of them. When I lived in the county a man wo.uld rather he be called anything than to have the town called Little Washington. If it could be done it would be nice to have Charlie Deer, the Huffs, the Menefees, and the Easthams and all their old Confederate friends come back and run this crowd out who calls this town Little Washington. They would not stop chasing them till they had run far into enemy territory, and if they did capture them, they would let uncle Bob Riddley take them back to prison camp. If it has become Little Washington, then move the high school on to Sperryville.
When I attended this great meeting the school board was asked how much the school debt was in the county. After much thought and deep consideration, and many questions by citifenns, they decided the debt was eighty three thousand dollars. It was stated that they would soon be out of debt as they were paying this off at the rate of two thous-t and dollars a year and going into debt at the rate of ten thousand a year.
It would also be a good idea for all those in favor of this great spending to be one group and those opposed to it in another group. Let those who are in favor of the spending pay for it. It is great progress this county has made when they only had one man on relief after the Civil WTar —and ft w*i Washington, Va, Now it takes between thirty and forty thousand dollars to pay for relief and it is Little Washington, Va. I really do not think there is
