DANCE RECITAL
On Friday, February 24, the Washington Colored School presented a dance recital of various rhythmic and interpi etative dance . Avelon Jordan, of the sixth grade, did the solo interpretation of the Greecian dance very gracefully, and in her charming manner. The audience most appreciated the closing dance which was the Indian dance.
The solo dance was done very competently by Marie Bailey of the fifth grade. The “La Conga” v a- quite a success wijh James Johnson, Jr., Avelon Jordan, and little Shirley Gatewood as solo dancers attired in colorful Spanish regalia.
Other dances presented were the Country dance, in which the primary grades were represented.
The Russian Cossack dance was done by the sixth grade boys who were dressed in Russian costumes with large sashes around their waists. Charles Hunter was the solo dancer.
A mock wed 'ing was also given before the dances started, in which Mary Maude Johnson became the bride of Robert Bailey. She was dressed in a white wedding gown with floor-length veil and a silver halo about her head. The bridesmaids, Roberta Jackson and Annie Fletcher, wore orchid and blue dresses with matching hats. The matron of honor, Arvelon Jordan, wore a pink organdy dress with matching hat. Little Charlotte Barbour and Bessie Mae Williams were flower girls. Charlotte wore a pink and white organdy dotted swiss dress, white shoes, a pink bonnet, and a matching basket of pink in which she carried her flowers. Bessie Mae wore a yellow dress of taffeta, yellow matching hat, and black shoes. i
Little Ted Barbour was ring bearer. He wore a white suit with a black tie, and carried a white pillow holding the ring.
James A. Freeman was the minister and Melvyji Jordan was father of the bride. Charles Hunter was best mar.
