For spring pastures, seed early —about 30 days before the average date of the fas* killing frost.' Be sure you have avwellprepared compact seedbed. Do not sacrifice your stand by seeding too deeply. A depth of Vi-inch is about right. Any deeper will mean loss.

Seed the correct mixture. Here is a schedule for different areas of the state:
Eastern, Tidewater, Middle, and Southern Piedmont—8 te 10 pounds of orchard grass and 2 pounds of ladino clover.per acre; or 10 pounds of orchard grass, 3 pounds red top grass and 10 pounds lespedeza per acre:
Northern Piedmont and West of the Blue Ridge—6 to 8 pounds orchard grass and 3 pounds red top, and 2 pounds white clover; - or 10 pounds orchard graas, 3 pounds red top, and 10 pounds lespedeza.
