Attend Church Workshop
Mrs. Ora Ramey, Mrs. Grace Reid and Mrs. Jessie Rowzie of Washington, Mrs. George Brown of Sperryville, and Rev. and Mrs. N'orman J. Flythe attended a workshop on the Town and Country Church held at Trinity Methodist Church at North Garden, Thursday, February 23.
Rev. James W. Shields, Extension Secretary of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the Methodist church, spoke about the organization of the small church and the financial program. Rev. Alexander Kerry, Jr., pastor of Memorial church in Charles City Co. nty, showed slides of Memorial Method ' church, which was built to con 'd,d-ife four small country churches. He told the story of how this consolidation took place. The Publishing House representative presented an organ which was de-igned for the small church. It was tin electric reed organ which sold for a little under $1,000. You could also by chimes to play with this organ.
Rev. Murray Wagner, pastor of the Brethren church at Weyer’s Cave, spoke on the use of the Lord’s Acre plan. He emphasized the spiritual benefits to ba derived from this plan. He pointed out the difference in the life of a person who gave the first hour of each week to the Lord. Some people give the eggs which their liens lay on Sunday. Others raise a pig or a setting of eggs or cultivate a piece of land and grow a crop of corn and give the proceeds. He emphasized that the Lord’s Acre money ought to be given above the regular giving and should be used for some special project such as extra missionary giving or building SundaySchool rooms or a parsonage. Mr. Wagner stated that as his pieople took part in the Lord’s Acre plan they also increased their regular contributions.
