Amissville Fire Co.
Plans Festival '
The newly-organized Amissville Volunteer Fire Department is introducing itself ht the first Firemen’s Festival next week end, September 26 and 27, when 50-members strong, they are turning out to furnish fun for folks and funds for themselves to pity for their new fire-fighting equipment and to build a house for it.
Born of necessity, about 30 citizens of Amissville community be%an the organization of a volunteer fire company early in June. Three homes had been destroyed in the neighborhood; and a carelessly tossed cigarette (supposedly by a motorist) had set a ravaging grass fire. The Amissville community knetAf that their neighbors (Rappahannock, Warrenton, and Culpeper) would all come to their aid when fire broke out, but the distances made the folks realize that they had better be helping themselves until help could arrive!
Meetings were held; organization arranged; and finally plans began to shape up. In the three months of the summer, the company has organized, a ladies auxiliary has begun to “work, two pieces of equipment have been secured, and the first benefit festival is almost rec|iy to sound-off!
