To bring about a closer coordination between proper diet and dental health, a demonstration dental health and nutrition education program was begun in Rappahannock County last September. From the onset of. the program it to as felt that, the project should be carried on through state and community agencies. School and public health personnel such as the elementary school supervisor, dentists, nutritionists, public health 'nurses, the county health officer, and a Dairy Council representative participated in the project.
A mobile dental trailer from the State Health Department visited the c«unty for two months during the faH. Out of the 342 pupils examined , for dental defects, 192 were treated by the public health dentist and 559 corrections made. Most of these corrections represented the filling of decayed teeth. Fluoride treatments were given to many of the children by the dental hygienist. The result of this corrective program indicated that there was a great need for improvement in the deirtal health of Rappahannock County children.
