To Think About Lawns
Want a better lawn next year? Now is the time to do something about it, say horticulturists at VPI.
The long summer drouth just passed makes it even more important to give the old lawn some attention, they claim. They say to stir on the soil on barfe spots, or on areas where icrab grass has taken over, and sow grass seed.
Fertilize old lawns with^i pound of sulphate of ammonia and 1£ lbs. of 5-10-5 fertilizer on 100 square feet. To get an even distribution of the fertlizer, use a fertilizer spreader if one is avalable.
Early September also is the best time of year to sew grass seed for a new lawn. A lawn started now will have less weeds than a lawn started next spring. Also it will have a
