Another election story comes to mind, now that folks seem pretty divided on their opinions about electing a president or deciding on a candidate that suits them.

Once upon a time an impending law was up for consideration and about half the residents of the village were for it and about half against. During the campaign a candidate made a speech and then someone yelled from the audience, “Yeah? Tell us how you stand on this new law?”

The speaker continued with scarcely a pause.

“Friend, I'm glad y6u asked me that question. I understand half my friends are for that law and half my friends are against it. Now listen! I want it distinctly understood right here that I’m for my friends!”
