Unlike ordinary cleaning procedures, the object of wax stripping is to dissolve and completely remove the protective wax film, leaving the wearing surface of the floor fully exposed. There are two ways to go about stripping a floor. You can prepare your own stripping solution by combining one-half to one cup of ammonia and one cup of detergent in one gallon of warm water. Test the solution first on a small section of flooring to see if it affects the built-up wax film. Most waxes will soften and/or turn cloudy after several minutes’ exposure to the cleaner. Some of the hgrder-to-remove waxes, however, will require more ammonia.
