Rappahannock County chalked up its first traffic fatality of 1970 on Sunday when a car crashed and burned claiming the life of a 52 year old D.C. man who was formerly of Sperryville. Thomas Harry Williams of Washington, D.C. was the victim of the firey crash which occurred on Route 522, a half mile east of Woodville, February 1. According to Trooper W.A. Buntin, circumstances indicated that the 67 Ford sedan operated by Williams was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed when it coursed off the left of the highway and struck a tree. The vehicle was engulfed in flames and any effort for immediate rescue was impossible, though, in all probability, death was instantaneous from the sever impact before the fire, the officer said.
