eisewnere. in some otner areas ot the United States, skills that are subject to instruction are not relative, in some instances, to the present demands of our economy. Although many people are not aware of this, the State of Virginia has been in the forefront in developing progressive vocational education programs, and this has been a very bright facet of our education effort.

The Virginia vocational education program has been developed in coordination with the industrial development program of the Commonwealth of Virginia in order to make available to industry the job skills that are needed by new, expanding and changing industries.

The increase in funding which went to vocational education represented, however, a relatively small portion of the bill when considered against the bill as a whole. I am given to understand that, in the Administration’s new proposal, there is expected to be recognition of the need for substantial support of vocational education funds, and I do not anticipate a reduction in this field as large as has been in some earlier discussions of the veto.
