Three political hopefuls vying for French Slaughter’s seat in the Virginia House of Delegates attended last Friday’s meeting of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection and answered questions on topics ranging from the future of farming to revamping the State Corporation Commission.
Unlike the usual “tweedledee-tweedledum” options presented to voters, the three candidates—Democrat Butch Davies, Republican George Beard and Independent Bob Murphy—appear to offer choices.
Preceeding the question and answer period, each candidate made a personal state and emphasis in the individual presentations varied sharply. Beard limited his remarks to environmental RLEP, Davies addressed specific issues that pertained to the county and Murphy railed against state government interference into local matters.
