Patterson’s first choice. “It does a good job on basic concepts. Many books emphasize terms and short change concepts,” he told the Board. Patterson added that
it also emphasized career possibilities related to the subject area under study.
“What I don’t like about it is that it’s very short on pictures,” he continued, adding that his students had all commented on this lack. Also, the book doesn’t provide well organized material, which might present a problem to a first year chemistry teacher, Patterson said.
Despite Patterson’s halfhearted endorsement, the Board unanimously approved his and all other recommended texts. In addition, the Board authorized Dr. William J. Blummer, who will become Superintendent of Schools upon Norton’s retirement, to select an updated text to use in basic business classes.
