He pledged that he will “see to it” that a farmer is appointed Commissioner of Agriculture and promised that farmers will be fully represented on the Board of Agriculture and Commerce, as well as other state boards and agencies with agricultural influence. Howell noted that gross income from Virginia farms has exceeded one billion dollars for the past three years and that cash receipts from farm marketings have increased nearly 80 per cent during the same time period.
“It is time to give family farmers in Virginia a fair shake and a full say in matters which affect their lives,” Howell declared.
