At home, Michael plays forward on his high school basketball team, a sport that has become increasingly popular in Germany. “We have soccer, swimming, gymnastics and volley ball, but most play basketball,” Michael commented. “Nobody in Germany plays baseball,” he added, in answer to a question on America’s national pasttime. For eight years, Michael has also been a member of a rowing team for an athletic club not connected with the school and has taken part in regattas throughout the Eschwege area.
