It is apparent that several of your readers have lost sight of one very important factor that sets a democracy apart from other forms of government—the ownership of property. That ownership carries with it the right to have a say in the utilization of that property.
Unless Rappahannock has changed the principles upon which this country was founded, majority rules—not just the individuals who possess the strongest set of vocal cords.
There is room in Rappahannock for those who wish to farm their land, and there is room for those who wish to utilize their land for other purposes. I do agree with Ima’s statement that “the land is my friend”, but without individual freedom of choice that land isn’t worth much. Just ask the people of Russia or China.
