problem with a lagoon sewage treatment system is controlling the level of suspended solids. “A lagoon is kind of undependable to meet a secondary level of treatment,” he noted. "The turn-over this spring showed that it is very possible for this (the elementary school’s) lagoon to have upsets.”
Lagoons Not Consistent
He said that Rappahannock’s lagoon had done well before, but its operation this past spring indicated that it was not an acceptable system for meeting secondary treatment levels.
“A lagoon by itself will not meet standards consistently,” Jurewicz stated.
