Martin Luis Orfila, former deputy with the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Department, begad training July 17 as a member of the 65th Basic Session of the State Police Academy.
Prior to this he was assigned to ride with a trooper to observe procedures until the school began.
Orfila joined 43 other trooper trainees for 20 weeks of basic training that includes 142 subjects calling for 1,010 hours of instruction plus a three-hour study period each day.
