these new procedures make it more difficult to get a social security number, they are intended to help protect the person’s social security record and to prevent anyone else from misusing the person’s social security number.
People intending to apply for a social security number should allow plenty of time before it will be required. Three to four weeks are needed before the card will be delivered, after all required documents have been submitted.
All documents submitted as evidence may be verified with the agency which issued them to assure they are valid, Hundley said.
