James siewart Mmpson was sentenced to 20 years in the penitentiary by Rappahannock Circuit Court Judge Rayner V. Snead on Monday for his part in a robbery of Mr. Jefferson’s Store in Sperryville last April.

Simpson, 47 years old from Boston, Virginia, was convicted of robbing the store of $250 with a firearm. The Sperryville robbery preceeded robberies and murders at Mitchells in Culpeper County and True Blue in Orange County the following day. Simpson and David P. Thompson have been charged in all three incidents.

On Monday, probation officer Dean Hahn recommended against probation for Simpson, citing a lengthy prior record including numerous traffic convictions
