Commercial applicators, who apply pesticides for a fee, and public operators, who apply pesticides for a city, county, state or federal government agency, have been trained or provided selfstudy materials by the Extension Service and have passed appropriate examinations administered by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer services.
Lau said about 20,000 private and 4,500 commercial applicators have been certified in Virginia.
Persons who are not certified (unless under the direct supervision of# a certified applicator who is willing to accept the responsibilities) cannot purchase or apply restricted use pesticides.
