And there has been plenty to curse about this year. The blankety-blank snow that has blanketed much of the country since the onset of winter has shown little mercy. Even Southern California got a taste Jan. 31 when a major storm piled up drifts four feet high and shut down Los Angeles highways.
But that is only the tip of the iceberg.
Chicago has almost been snowed off the map. By midFebruary its cumulative snowfall for the season—84 inches—had already surpassed winter totals since record keeping began there in 1871.

Field Trial Set,
To Run On Quail
The Northern Virginia Field Trial Club is holding its annual spring bird dog field trial for all pointing breeds March 16, 17 and 18 at the Chester F. Phelps Wildlife Management Area.
The trial grounds are at Sumerduck on Rt. 651.
To be run on quail, the trial will have seven categories: Open Derby, Open Shooting Dog, Open Puppy, Amateur All-Age, Amateur Derby, Amateur Puppy, and Amateur Shooting Dog.
