Following a two-year period of serving Methodist pastorates in the North Arkansas Conference, Dr. Clemons served as Registrar of this Conference Board of Ministerial Training and Field Representative at Hendrix College. In I960 he began a three-year position as a graduate assistant in Preaching at the Divinity School of Duke University. For the next four years he served as Chaplain and Associate Professor of Religion at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, joining the Faculty of Wesley Theological Seminary in 1967 (1967-Assistant Professor; 1971-Associate Professor; 1974-Professor).
Dr. Gemons has served as Chairman of the American Textual Criticism Seminar and in 1973 was elected to membership in Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas. He also served as President of the Chesapeake Bay Region of the Society of Biblical Literature in 1978.
Well known and respected as a Biblical scholar, Dr. Clemons has made numerous appearances throughout the country, presenting lectures and papers. He has published1 numerous articles in Christian periodicals and scholarly journals and now has a book being prepared for publication.
At the community Lenten dinner Wednesday evening, he will be presenting an exposition of the Gospel of John, related to Lenten themes. The program will begin following a covered dish dinner at Trinity Episcopal parish hall in Washington at 6:15 p.m. All are invited.
