ucumc <x Lire: magazine photographer from 1947-62. In 1963 he joined the National Geographic staff where he continues to work out of their Washington headquarters. In 1972 he was given the Grand Award in the White House News Photographers Association annual photo contest.

The list of major stories he has worked on and the places to which he has travelled is long and varied. For a sample, Korea, Andalusia, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Hungary, Corsica, Turkey. His most recent story is on Australia which appeared in the February 1979 issue of National Geographic.

Although he is a notable success in his field, Mr. Scherschel is a low-profile, Considerate and most pleasant, easy-to-meet person. You will enjoy knowing him in person as well as through his placecapturing slides. You are invited to the Library to see the man and his work, March 221
