Merrill Motor Company in Washington, Jenkins Exxon in Amissville, and Sperryville Exxon on Rt. 211 in Sperryville are receiving approximately 75 per cent of the gas they had at this time last year. All three stations have been forced to cut back on business: Merrill closing when the pumps get very low, Jenkins shutting three hours earlier than previously, and Sperryville Exxon closing earlier in the evening, too.
Both Jenkins and Sperryville Exxon have been completely out of gas due to the shortage, and Jenkins was out of fuel this past weekend. Merrill Motors and Sperryville Exxon both report that there has been a certain amount of topping off, by both local drivers and tourists.
Baldwin’s West End Shell in Sperryville on Rt. 211 would not give out any information. When asked what precentage of their normal allotment they are receiving, Mrs. Cecil Baldwin replied, “We wouldn’t want to advertise that.” She also said that they have not had to cut back on their hours at all, nor have they had to impose any kind of a minimum of maximum purchase ruling.
