In another split vote, with Masterson opposed, the board agreed to make an earlier payment from this year’s school budget on the first installment in reimbursing Piedmont Regional School for capital outlay costs. (The board has committed itself to repay $26,000 over a ten year period at no interest.)
In response to suggestions from Stokes and board chairman Beverly Massie that insulation, storm doors and new water coolers for the high school be added to the project list, Bloomer advised waiting for the last quarter’s sale tax revenue payment before deciding on additional expenditures. ‘‘If the payment is as favorable as last year’s, we will be able to take care of all the items on the list plus those suggested by the board,” Bloomer added.
The board voted unanimously to ask the Supervisors to authorize carry-over funds for the maintenance projects and for two school buses that have been ordered but which won’t arrive in time to be paid for out of the current budget before July 1.
Energy Conservation Plan
Dr. Bloomer presented the School Board with an energy conservation plan drawn up at the board's request in response to the current fuel shortages. The plan calls for:
